On Saturday evening at Martin Stadium, Washington State and Texas Tech will battle it out to show their gratitude to Mike Leach's legacy as they begin Big 12 play with an early victory. Both schools had him as head coach during that period; thus this game offers both schools an opportunity to make a statement against one of its biggest programs.
Initial lines from Las Vegas had Tech as a 1-1/2 point favorite over WSU, however this has since shifted, with Tech becoming approximately a 2-1/2 point home favorite with most sportsbooks.
Tech must address its defensive front that was taken apart by FCS Abilene Christian in its opener, as well as possibly being without starting safety C.J. Baskerville due to a shoulder issue - possibly forcing him out for this game; Harvey Dyson may also miss time due to foot pain issues.
On the flipside, WSU must find ways to increase production from their passing game. After ranking just 127th in rushing yards last season, scoring points will require greater efforts this time around. Losing top receiver Josh Kelly to Lubbock this offseason hurts greatly but junior backup quarterback John Mateer and Bryant transfer wideout Zevi Eckhaus should provide plenty of production.
