No. 17 SMU (11-2 SU, 8-5 ATS) will face its first taste of Atlantic Coast Conference competition when they take on Boston College (6-6 SU, 5-6 ATS) in the Fenway Bowl on December 28. SMU recently claimed its third straight American Athletic Conference Championship and should have enough firepower against an offense which has faltered in its last three outings.
The Eagles' defense may not be at its peak level, but this unit remains sufficient to keep SMU within striking distance. Following Ryan O'Keefe's departure, sophomore safety Nnamdi Nwokobia and senior cornerback Dino Tomlin must lead this group of playmakers.
On the other hand, SMU's offense hasn't been as potent, ranking only 27th nationally with 14.1 yards per pass attempt. But, they still boast one of the strongest rushing units and have scored plenty of points through it this season.
With a 49.5-point over/under line on the board, this seems to be an obvious underdog win for SMU. But it should be noted that backup quarterback Kevin Jennings started in the AAC Championship game and has proven his competence when given his chance.
