After struggling to start their respective seasons, Oregon State and San Jose State are eager to turn things around. A win by Oregon State could provide crucial momentum and set them on their way for future games; on the other hand, San Jose State may need to improve defensive performance if they hope to avoid another consecutive loss.
The Beavers have taken an effective approach to their offense, combining a potent running attack with an efficient passing game for maximum effectiveness. Their adaptability enables them to adapt to different defenses and keep opponents off balance. Defensively, they have shown strength by limiting rushing yards and plugging gaps on the edge of the line; however they have struggled at times to put pressure on opposing quarterbacks which has allowed some big plays.
SJSU suffered several key departures this offseason, but head coach Brent Brennan remained confident his team could compete with the best in Mountain West play. Following a slow start, SJSU eventually found its footing, winning four out of their final five regular-season games to finish 7-5 overall and 6-2 in Mountain West play; though close losses to Toledo, Air Force, and Boise State should have been won easily; to comeback SJSU needs strong front seven play and young receivers putting pressure on Beaver quarterback Colin Wilson;
