Arizona State vs Texas State Football Preview - September 12 2024 Despite being picked near the bottom of the Big 12 Conference preseason rankings, the Sun Devils opened 2024 strong with an easy victory against Wyoming in Week 1. Now they host Mississippi State for Week 2, hoping for another impressive home win and to continue their perfect start to 2024.
The Sun Devils boast a strong rushing attack this season despite losing Rashada Lee, and have found new threat Cam Skattebo to lead their offense. Skattebo posted an impressive first half performance against Mississippi State with 137 yards on 15 carries for an early 1,000-yard rusher opportunity; however, their offense will struggle without finding an efficient quarterback capable of creating plays.
Sam Leavitt, who earned four-star status out of high school and experienced success at Michigan, is ASU's starting quarterback. He was efficient during their opener game and can throw long passes. To fully maximize his effectiveness and potential with ASU's receiving corps, however, consistency must be developed more rapidly.
The Sun Devils defense had issues in Week 1, but improved significantly by Week 2. When they limited opponents to less than 36.7 points in games last season, they went 5-2.
