Lake Charles, La. - McNeese State Cowboys basketball schedule has received a major boost with the announcement of an American Athletic Conference team from North Texas coming to Lake Charles' Legacy Center on November 18 for a non-conference contest on their schedule this season. North Texas joins Baylor University as quality Division I opponents that have visited McNeese's Legacy Center this season.
After falling to Alabama 72-64 on Monday, the Cowboys dropped to 1-2 this season. Sincere Parker led all scorers for them with 19 points and three rebounds in that loss.
North Texas averaged 80.0 points per game on offense while ranking 332nd nationally on defense by allowing 62.2. The Mean Green shot 39.5% from beyond the arc and 55% inside; 34.4% of their baskets came via 3-pointers.
Last season, UNT was ranked 153rd nationally with 7.6 threes made per game and 293rd with 8.3 threes conceded per contest. Shahada Wells led UNT with 17.8 points and 4.7 assists per game while Christian Shumate averaged 9.5 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per contest.
McNeese proved themselves as a formidable defensive opponent last season, ranking 113th nationally with 33.2 rebounds per game and 96th with 30.1 allowed per game - both impressive marks in their respective fields. Furthermore, McNeese ranked 70th nationwide with 14.9 assists per game - perfect opponents for Mean Green who are struggling offensively, making only 28.5% of their field goal attempts while averaging 52.7 points per game.
