On Friday evening at Allen Fieldhouse in Kansas City, Kansas Jayhawks host Manhattan Jaspers for their second non-conference matchup of 2019. Kansas are heavy favorites in this match-up; currently set at 140.5 points over/under.
Kansas remained under the numbers in their season-opening win against Bryant, holding them to 120 points and forcing turnovers with Seydou Traore and Daniel Rouzan each netting five steals each. Manhattan struggled in defense, allowing 34.2 percent of three-point attempts from opponents.
Manhattan excelled on offense last season, averaging 67.2 points per game - ranking them 294th nationally in college basketball - to rank 294th among Division I programs. They also made good use of steals and blocks against their opponents; 13.1 turnovers occurred each night they faced last season! Unfortunately though, their defense wasn't as solid; giving up 70.4 points per contest while only allowing opponents 25.5 rebounds per contest.
As this game will likely be high-scoring, I think taking the under might be worth exploring. Kansas boasts superior defensive abilities over Jaspers, as well as playing at a more rapid pace than Jaspers do. Expect this game to become very disorganized quickly - don't be surprised to see Kansas take their focus toward their Kentucky matchup next week instead! Despite their talent advantage over Jaspers here - take my advice and take the under.
